Zanzibar continues to shine as one of Africa’s top travel destinations, celebrated for its white sand beaches, rich culture, and growing global connectivity.
According to a report by the Office of the Chief Government Statistician and the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, Zanzibar welcomed 736,755 international visitors in 2024 — a 15% increase compared to 2023.
Europe Leads the Way
Europe remains the leading source market, accounting for 71.6% of all international arrivals. This strong European presence is largely due to increased direct flights to Zanzibar from major cities across the continent.
Among the top European countries:
Italy: 11.8% of arrivals
Germany: 9.7%
Poland: 7%
Growing African Market
African travelers also showed a strong increase in 2024, representing 13.4% of international arrivals, up 16.9% from the previous year.South Africa and Kenya are currently leading this trend, showing a growing interest in Zanzibar as both a leisure and lifestyle destination.
This performance is a result of ongoing infrastructure investment and Zanzibar’s efforts to diversify its tourism base.
Tourism Fuels Real Estate Demand
